Testing & assessment

Objective tools that support your care.

Alongside a thorough psychiatric evaluation, Great Minds offers testing that adds objective information to your treatment plan. Testing is optional, and none of these tools is used on its own to make a diagnosis.

  • Optional, never required to be seen
  • QbCheck can be taken from home
  • Results reviewed as part of your care

Which test is right for me?

The two tools answer different questions. Many patients need neither; some use one or both.

QbCheck ADHD testing

QbCheck is an FDA-cleared, computer-based test that objectively measures the core symptoms of ADHD: hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. It adds measurable data to an ADHD evaluation, alongside your history and a real clinical conversation.

$150 self-pay · not covered by insurance

  1. Request and pay online

Fill in a short form and pay on our secure Stripe page.

  2. Get your access link

Within 24 hours of payment, usually within 1 to 2 hours, we email your link and instructions.

  3. Take the test at home

About 20 minutes on your own computer. No appointment needed.

  4. Receive your results

Results are emailed to you, to bring to your ADHD evaluation.

How to prepare

To help ensure accurate results:

  • Sit upright in a stable, non-swivel chair.
  • Use a computer on a desk or table, not on your lap.
  • Keep your body as still as possible during the test.
  • Avoid coffee, caffeine, or medications before the test.
  • If you can, test first thing in the morning, well-rested, before any medications.
  • Don't take the test when you're feeling anxious.

QbCheck cannot be used alone to diagnose ADHD. A diagnosis comes from a comprehensive evaluation with a qualified clinician.

Pharmacogenomic testing

GeneSight testing

GeneSight pharmacogenomic testing analyzes certain genetic variations that may influence how your body responds to many commonly prescribed psychiatric medications, helping guide more personalized treatment decisions.

Results are one piece of information. Medication recommendations stay individualized and depend on your evaluation, clinical history, and treatment needs.

Please read before requesting testing

Before completing the GeneSight Screening Request Form, please contact GeneSight Billing & Insurance Support directly at (844) 697-4239 to verify your insurance coverage and billing information. Complete the request form only after you have confirmed your coverage or payment options with GeneSight and have decided to proceed with testing.

How it works

  1. Check your coverage

Call GeneSight Billing & Insurance Support at (844) 697-4239.

  2. Complete the request form

On genesight.com, once you have decided to proceed.

  3. Ask about testing at your visit

The test uses a cheek swab.

  4. Review your results

We go over them with you as part of medication management.

How testing fits into your care

  1. Psychiatric evaluation

We talk through your symptoms, history, and goals. This is where a diagnosis, if any, comes from.

  2. Testing, when it helps

If objective data would be useful, we may suggest QbCheck or GeneSight. You can also start QbCheck on your own beforehand.

  3. A personalized plan

Test results are considered alongside everything else to shape your treatment plan, with ongoing follow-up.

Testing questions

Do I need testing to be seen?

No. Testing is optional. Most patients start with a psychiatric evaluation, and testing is added only when it would be helpful. You can book an evaluation without taking any test.

Do these tests diagnose a condition?

No. QbCheck and GeneSight add objective information, but neither can be used alone to make a diagnosis or choose a treatment. They are considered alongside your history and a comprehensive evaluation with a qualified clinician.

Which test should I take?

QbCheck is for questions about ADHD: it objectively measures attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. GeneSight is for questions about medication: it looks at genetic variations that may affect how your body responds to many psychiatric medications. If you are not sure, ask at your visit.

How soon do I get my QbCheck link?

Within 24 hours of payment, usually within 1 to 2 hours, we email you your QbCheck access link and testing instructions. You complete the test remotely on your own, and your results are emailed to you.

Can I take QbCheck without an appointment?

Yes. No appointment is needed to take QbCheck. If you would like to review your results or discuss treatment with Dr. Daniels, you can book a separate appointment.

Are the tests covered by insurance?

QbCheck is $150 self-pay and is not covered by insurance. GeneSight is billed by GeneSight; please contact GeneSight Billing & Insurance Support at (844) 697-4239 to verify your coverage before requesting it.

Will GeneSight tell me which medication to take?

No. GeneSight results are one piece of information. Medication recommendations are individualized and depend on your evaluation, clinical history, and treatment needs.

Can I take the tests from home?

QbCheck is taken from home on your own computer, with no appointment needed. GeneSight uses a cheek swab; ask about it at your visit.
